Family Councils. A Way to Build Families in Business.
Communication is the link that connects people. When communication breaks down, you and your people are lost. At the same time, many people don't know how to effectively communicate.
Disagree without tearing your organization apart.
Vantage recognizes the barriers to communication and coaches executives and family members to deal effectively with differences of opinion and not waste energy avoiding conflict. After working with us, management learns how to disagree, debate and argue respectfully and professionally.
Forming a Family Council
One way to maintain communication and think strategically is the creation of a family council. Essentially, a Family Council is a forum that allows all family members a chance to express views and voice concerns. Family councils are also an effective way for the founder or CEO to communicate the vision for the organization. It also helps teach the next generation that the business birthright is not an entitlement, but rather, it requires responsibility. By allowing each family business member a voice in decision-making, communication is enhanced and, in many cases, improved.
A family council does not mean a shift in power.
Family councils improve communication, encourage strategic and out-of-the-box thinking, increase the family's chances of preserving harmony and sets the stage for a smooth transition to the next generation.
We can help you structure a family council that makes sense for your business, work with family members that need coaching to prepare them for succession, and improve communication between family members.
